The first question that comes to mind is how do you get used to being surrounded with just men?
The answer is quite simple you don't . There will always be moments where you just miss interacting with other woman and talk about things that you just can't talk to men about . but for me it wasn't a big change as i have always been one of the boys so its easier for me to cope with .
It's always a new challenge and feeling when you start something new and meet new people and think oh will i have a good click with them and will there be a other girl in the same class who i can interact with ?
Thankfully with this bootcamp there are 5 guys and 2 girls and the dynamic between the group is quite chilled and relaxed. There isn't a us vs them feeling everyone just respects each other and work well together.
There are times where i just get annoyed with being surrounded with guys mainly because they tend to make jokes that i just think this isn't funny but of course they think its hilarious and also talking about football which is predictable. It needs getting used to as there isn't a lot you can do about it and just have to think of the fact men are mainly a few years younger mentally then they actually are.
Most woman who start in the IT world or app development aren't girly girls , what i mean by this they have a bit of tom-boy side to them . I say this because you also need to know how a guy thinks when working with them and know how to motivate them as they sometimes have the "i will do this later attitude".
What i learnt in this bootcamp is that the total opposites of personalties can work well together and get along when you don't expect them too . Also you don't feel like the odd man out when it comes to certain group activities which is a great dynamic to have specially when your spending 12 weeks with them .
Me personally i prefer working with men then working with woman because its just easier for me to connect with them. Working with them is also a lot easier because i generally know how to work with them better. working with a other woman is fun too as you get input that a guy would never think of.
It's defiantly something to take into consideration. If you can handel working with guys intensively for certain amount of time . If you continue down this path you will defiantly have to be in a group with just guys or with one other girl. Its defiantly worth it!
